🧩 Part 3: Assembly & Sewing
- Arrange the Pieces: Lay all 8 segments flat in order from 1 to 8. Their curved shapes will form a circular/spiral pattern.
- Sewing from the Inside: Turn the pieces to the wrong side (backside). Use a tapestry needle and matching yarn.
- Stitch Choice: Use an invisible mattress stitch or crochet them together using a Slip Stitch (Sl st) through the back loops only for maximum neatness.
- Forming the Bag: Once all 8 pieces are joined into one large wavy circle, fold it in half. Sew the side and bottom edges together to create the bag pouch, leaving the top open.
🧶 Part 4: Making the Romanian Cord Handle
- R1: Leave a 20 cm yarn tail for sewing. Make a slip knot and Ch 2.
- R2: Sc 1 into the first chain.
- R3: Turn the work slightly clockwise. Insert the hook under the single loop on the side. Yarn over, pull through, yarn over, and pull through both loops on the hook.
- R4+: Turn again. You will see two parallel loops on the side. Insert the hook under both loops, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, and pull through the remaining two loops.
- Repeat: Repeat row 4 until the handle reaches your desired length:
- Handbag Handle: 30–40 cm
- Shoulder Bag: 55–65 cm
- Crossbody Bag: 110–120 cm
- Hardware & Pearl: Thread the cord through a large pearl bead, attach D-rings to the ends, and secure them to the bag corners.
🧵 Part 5: Fabric Lining & Inside Pocket
The Lining:
- Fold your lining fabric into two layers and place the bag on top.
- Trace the bag shape with chalk and cut, leaving a 2 cm seam allowance.
- Sew the sides and bottom of the fabric layer together.
- Pin a zipper to the top opening of the fabric and stitch it down.
- Place the lining pouch inside the crochet bag and secure the top edges using a blind stitch.
The Inside Pocket:
- Cut a small fabric rectangle (e.g., 15 cm x 20 cm) before sewing the lining together.
- Fold all 4 edges inward by 1 cm and iron them flat. Sew the top edge first.
- Pin the pocket to the center face of the lining piece.
- Stitch the left, right, and bottom edges securely to the lining, leaving the top open.
